STTA Live! November is Military Family Appreciation Month

November is Military Family Appreciation Month and Veteran’s Day is recognized on November 11 each year. At PFLAG National, we like to use these moments of appreciation and recognition to reflect on the experiences of LGBTQ+ servicemembers and LGBTQ+ dependents in military families.

Join us this Thursday, November 2 for Something to Talk About Live!

PFLAG Connects: Communities - November Meetings

PFLAG Connects: Communities (PCC) provide a safe, virtual, moderated space where people with shared experiences can connect each month. PFLAG National’s current communities gather people of Latino, Black/African American, and Asian American and Pacific Islander backgrounds to gain support, ask questions, and learn from others who have been through similar experiences.

We also host a Military Community meeting, in partnership with our friends at the Modern Military Association of America (MMAA).

ICYMI: The First Lady and Honored Speakers at Learning With Love

Learning With Love has come to a close, and it was a wonderful way to wrap our 50th anniversary year. From our opening keynote from First Lady Jill Biden to our "Courageous Love in Trans Healthcare," panel with Adm. Rachel Levine from HHS and Dr. Jesse Ehrenfeld, and moderated by Charlotte Clymer, our guests were engaged and inspired from day one. In addition to the above, we also hosted a panel on combating book bans, moderated by MSNBC's Ali Velshi, and featuring American Library Association president Emily Drabinski, author Arvin Ahmadi ("How It All Blew Up"), and Julie Womack of Red Wine & Blue.

We also brought hundreds of people to Capitol Hill to advocate for their LGBTQ+ loved ones. It was a mostly positive day, however some legislators and staffers were not quite as welcoming as others. We wrapped the week with a conversation between PFLAG National CEO Brian K. Bond and Karine Jean-Pierre.

With over 400 guests from across the country--and leaders in attendance from international PFLAG organizations from Canada, China, Costa Rica, Lebanon, Lithuania, Moldova, Panama, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan, Uganda, Ukraine, and Vietnam--it really was a room full of passion, power, commitment, and love.
