Protect Trans Kids

Trans kids are being bullied by lawmakers.

That’s the easiest way to put it.

Instead of working on policies to improve the lives of their constituents, elected officials in states around the country continue to waste time and tax dollars by dehumanizing our kids.

They have brought forward bills to ban people who are trans from using the bathroom, from updating their legal I.D., from playing sports, and from accessing medical care.

These bills are discriminatory. They are degrading. They are immoral. They are unkind.

THEY MUST BE STOPPED

Senator,

As a PFLAG member and a constituent, I urge you to vote NO on the FY25 NDAA. The brave individuals who serve in our armed forces should have access to the best healthcare available – and so too should the families who love and support them. The NDAA should adequately fund our military so our servicemembers and their dependents have all the services they need to thrive. But a policy rider in the NDAA would ban children of service members from receiving the healthcare they need simply because they are transgender.

This policy is being included to specifically harm transgender kids, like the ones in my life, to score cheap political points. It is cruel and indefensible to threaten to take away healthcare – which leads to improvements in mental health, self-esteem, and overall well-being by reducing gender dysphoria, depression, and anxiety – from trans kids of military members.

Military personnel depend on the Command to assure the health, safety and well-being of their families while they are deployed, so they can concentrate on the mission. I don’t know about you, but I feel safer if our military heroes can focus on the mission, not be distracted with worry about whether their family can find necessary medical care at home.

The government does not know better than parents when it comes to a child’s healthcare. Please protect trans kids and our military families. Please vote NO on the FY25 NDAA and urge your colleagues to do the same.

Dear Senator,

I'm calling to urge you to oppose HB 8 – the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. This dangerous bill blocks teachers from talking about LGBTQ issues or people and undermines existing protections for LGBTQ kids in schools.

Our nation is facing serious issues. Our state leaders need to focus on what matters — improving our schools, our healthcare system, and our infrastructure. Our leaders should be finding ways to make our state better, rather than spending their time bullying LGBTQ kids like mine.

HB 8 serves no purpose other than to stigmatize LGBTQ people, isolate LGBTQ kids, and make teachers fearful of providing a safe, inclusive classroom. The existence of LGBTQ students and parents is not a taboo topic that has to be regulated by the legislature.

Please get back to work helping regular Ohioans. Vote NO on HB 8.
