Dear Chapter Leader,

Since the election, I know many chapters have received questions from members about how to protect themselves and what comes next. I wanted to share a few helpful resources that some of our partner organizations have released recently which may be of help for you to pass on. Advocates for Trans Equality released their Trans Legal Survival Guide, which outlines steps for folks to make sure that they are legally protected. HRC also released their new resource, Facing the Future Together, which includes some FAQs that LGBTQ+ folks have post election. Please share these with any members asking for guidance and we will continue to share resources with you as we get them.

As you gather with friends and family, we also have our How to “Ally” for the Holidays resource that you can share with your members. From all of us at PFLAG National, we’re grateful for each and every chapter and the important work you do in your communities.

Thankful for all that you do,

Jamie Curtis (she/her)
Vice President, Chapter & Communities Engagement

Add Your Events to the Member Portal

Make your chapter events more visible by adding them to the Member Portal! When you list your events, you help grow our PFLAG community by ensuring your support meetings, workshops, and community events reach more people who need them. Your events will automatically appear when people search for local chapters on pflag.org, and if you're hosting events virtually, your events will also be featured on our Virtual Events page.

We've made the process simple with an easy-to-follow visual guide. By taking just a few minutes to post your events, you're helping ensure that everyone seeking support—whether they are looking for in-person meetings or virtual resources—can find their way to PFLAG's caring community.

Urban Think Tank

December’s Urban Think Tank will be focused on self care following the election and as we prepare for the upcoming legislative session. We know that PFLAG chapter leadership, especially when serving a large urban community, is a lot of work, particularly as PFLAG board members make space for their own politics-related emotions while providing support to their members.

Register now to participate in this facilitated peer discussion space for urban chapter leaders on Thursday, December 12th at 5pm PT/8pm ET!

Annual Responsibilities Reminder

With the end of the year in sight, it's a great time to start work on your chapter's annual responsibilities! Please note that all required items are due by February 15, 2025, so it's wise to begin preparations early to avoid any last-minute issues.

The most important task is completing your IRS forms. For chapters with annual income under $50,000, you'll simply need to submit a 990 e-postcard. Please note that the February 15 deadline is strictly enforced by the IRS, with no exceptions for late submissions. This is particularly crucial because failing to file for three consecutive years will result in the loss of your tax-exempt status—a situation that is both expensive and time-consuming to correct.

To help you complete this process, we've created a comprehensive guide with visual instructions, which you can find in the Member Portal. We're here to support you through this process, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you need assistance!
