Dear Chapter Leader,

With only 20 days until the election, candidates are making the final case to constituents on why they should vote for them in the upcoming election. Unfortunately, some candidates have chosen to engage in hateful rhetoric, demonizing transgender kids and spreading fear and misinformation in their political ads and in their public comments.

Know that PFLAG National sees you and has your back during these times. We believe that the best way to combat these ads is to take meaningful action—doing something.

Whether that’s casting your ballot (EARLY!) with love this election, getting others to do the same, or serving as a poll volunteer, you can channel fear and frustration into meaningful action. Check your registration, find your polling place, and see what is on your ballot by visiting vote411.org/pflag. Check out our Love Votes page to learn how you can take action to get out the vote this election. Every bit helps, not just you but your local community and our country.

Please take care of yourself. Turn off the TV during commercial breaks, toss mean and misleading mailers in the trash when they hit your mailbox, and mute candidates who engage in hateful rhetoric on your social media feed if you need to. Importantly, don’t be afraid to address your concerns at an upcoming chapter meeting and give members space to share their thoughts and feelings. Please check our 501c3 guidelines for help guiding the conversation while remaining non-partisan. We are all in this together.

Thank you for all you do,

Jamie Curtis (she/her)
Vice President, Chapter & Communities Engagement

PFLAG Votes Week of Action

Our next week of action kicks off on Monday, October 21st! Our main call to action will be for folks to make a voting plan, voting early, and encouraging friends and family to do the same.

Here’s where you come in: Part of the ask will be for people to vote early with their chapter or on their own and post a picture with their “I voted sticker” on social media asking people to get out and let their love vote this election. Please help us out and participate in this action. We would love to feature these pictures toward the beginning of the week of the 21st but anytime works! Don’t forget to tag us using @pflag and include the hashtag #LoveVotes. For more tips on posting on social media and for messaging ideas visit our Love Votes social media toolkit.
