Dear Chapter Leader,

As your chapter prepares to participate in local Pride celebrations or other summer activities, it is a good time to refresh your knowledge on PFLAG chapter safety resources. It is a good idea for chapters to have safety plans in place for all events that you are participating in. Whether an event is hosted by the chapter or another organization, it is important for PFLAG members to know what to do in case of any emergency. Take some time now to review the resources and reach out to our team if you need help preparing.

Thank you for all that you do,

Jamie Curtis (she/her)
Director of Chapter Engagement

Updated 501(c)3 Guidelines

As we prepare for the election in November, we have already noticed an uptick in questions about what chapters, as 501(c)3 organizations, can and can’t do. Thankfully our Advocacy team has updated PFLAG’s 501(c)3 guidance, including FAQs. (You’ll need to log in to the Member Portal to view this Chapter Leader Resource and it can be found in Chapter 101, and Essentials.)

When you have questions about what your chapter can and cannot participate in or do, please take a look at this guide. If something is not captured or your question is not answered, please reach out to advocacy@pflag.org.

Annual Report Highlights

Thank you for your annual report submissions! Each year during the annual chapter responsibilities season, we ask chapters about key programmatic information to support our shared work. The results are in! We’ve put together this two page report that includes some data highlights and a bit more information about how we use the submissions.

A new PFLAG Connects: Communities Meeting!

When our friends at Gender Spectrum reached out to us after announcing they might need to shut their doors and end their support meetings due to lack of resources, we immediately answered the call. And now, we are excited to announce the launch of the first meeting in that community, the PFLAG Connects: Gender Spectrum Parent Community meeting, which will take place on the third Monday of each month, at 8pm ET/5pm PT, beginning Monday, May 20th.

This is an opportunity to bring new people to the PFLAG family and to connect them directly with our chapters for in-person support. If your chapter has a gender-focused support meeting, please let your Chapter Engagement staffer know about it so they can assist you in adding it to the PFLAG National website AND direct attendees to those meetings.

For the PFLAG Connects: Gender Spectrum Parent Community meeting, anyone who is a parent or caregiver of a young person who is gender diverse is welcome. The only requirement is to register in advance so that we can provide an even higher level of safety and support to attendees. Please register today.

We are proud of this new level of partnership with our friends at Gender Spectrum, and excited to offer not only this new virtual space, but to support chapters by creating this new pipeline to in-person support at your meetings.

PFLAG Academy Online: May 2024

Thursday, May 23, 2024 | 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT: Re-Re-Envisioning Pride

In 2021, as we looked to come back together for Pride following the tumult of 2020, we knew that there was a lot to address. Whether it was health, politics, or social justice reckonings… Pride couldn’t just “go back to normal.” Cut to three years later and we’re still not where we need to be, and our Pride events need to reflect on our historical moment and look to the future. In this session, we’ll look at the challenges of allyship in tumultuous times. We’ll also reflect on our shared history and lessons we’ve learned from experiences in the past. Then, we’ll learn how to keep up with changing times so that we can all move forward into our future together. Lastly, we’re going to look at some signs of hope and progress to help us as we build that inclusive future.
