Dear PFLAG Supporter,

As the end of the year approaches, so do great fundraising opportunities! Use this time to reach out to current and former members, community partners, current and former donors, and others on your email list to ask for donations to support your chapter’s work. Sending an email that outlines what your chapter has accomplished this past calendar year and what you plan to accomplish in the coming year, with the help of donated funds, will inspire potential donors to open their wallets to give to support PFLAG’s mission and work.

Here are some tools to use in your fundraising outreach:

  • Monthly giving outreach templates, supporting your emails not only at this time of year but year-round!
    • Did you know you can download a report of former board and chapter members on the Member Portal? It might be helpful to add these folks to your outreach list! Here’s a quick guide on how to download that report to an excel sheet.
  • When people donate, it’s helpful to send them a letter afterwards, not only to thank them, but to provide proof for them of their donation to a non-profit. Try using this donation letter template.
  • If you’re a chapter leader from a rural PFLAG chapter, it might be helpful to review this fundraising-focused Rural Think Tank recording from last May. You’ll need the passcode, which is M14R*UW1.

Reminder: Annual Responsibilities for Your Chapter!

With the February 15, 2025 deadline approaching, it’s time to start preparing the necessary filings for both the state and the IRS.

Most states require PFLAG chapters to submit an annual report to maintain compliance and keep your nonprofit incorporation current. Since deadlines and requirements can vary, it’s your chapter’s responsibility to gather this information. To assist you, we’ve compiled a list of Annual Filing Requirements by State, which you can access here. We also recommend conducting your own research to ensure you complete all necessary filings.

Need help with your state filing? Reach out to Angel Kearns at akearns@pflag.org, or drop by her weekend office hours. The next session is this Saturday, December 7, from 11 AM to 1 PM EST!

Urban Think Tank Alert!

December’s Urban Think Tank will be focused on self care following the election and as we prepare for the upcoming legislative session. We know that PFLAG chapter leadership, especially when serving a large urban community, is a lot of work, particularly as PFLAG board members make space for their own politics-related emotions while providing support to their members. Register now to participate in this facilitated peer discussion space for urban chapter leaders on Thursday, December 12th at 5pm PT/8pm ET!

Regional Roundup

Can't squeeze in a fundraising campaign? No worries! There are tons of easy ways to rally support for your chapter. Think about what you already have planned. Hosting a holiday party? Why not whip up a bake sale, chili cook-off, or penny auction? Or, get involved in community fundraisers, like holiday tree auctions. You could even use Canva to create holiday cards for members. Even if you’re just hosting your monthly meeting, consider opening or closing the night with a reminder about why PFLAG matters to your community and pass a hat around. Fundraising doesn’t need to be complicated and should work for your chapter!

Stay safe,
