Dear Chapter Leaders,

Donations are crucial all year round and we know that most nonprofits receive about one quarter of their revenue in the month of December. A great way to kick off the upcoming season of generosity is by participating in Giving Tuesday.  This global day of giving, celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving in the United States, is just 7 days away. The day is marked by a surge in charitable donations, driven by social media campaigns and community involvement. Nonprofits typically prepare for Giving Tuesday by creating compelling fundraising campaigns, leveraging social media to share their stories, and engaging with both current and potential donors.

It’s not too late to get started! Check out Giving Tuesday’s Toolkit for Nonprofits. It has every resource you could need, whether you’re in the middle of your giving campaign, or just getting started, including social media plans, key messaging, templates, and more!

We’re also happy to share that we’ve created social media templates in Canva for your chapter to use for Giving Tuesday! We have both a square option (for a stagnant post) and a vertical option (for use in stories). Each asset was created for your chapter to personalize with your chapter logo, a URL for fundraising, and photos. You can also add an active link “sticker” to your Instagram story posts. On the Chapter Leader website, we’ve added a resource for downloading and using these assets. Have questions? Please reach out to the Communications team at comms@pflag.org

Giving Tuesday can also be a great kickoff to your year end fundraising campaign. The holidays are a time where folks are looking to give back to their communities, and a time for you to highlight the incredible work of PFLAG in the last year (and looking forward to the next)! Think about adding a donation portion to your end of year holiday celebrations as a chapter, and don’t forget social media! For a step by step guide to creating your end of year giving plan, check out this list from Donor Box.

Google Deleting Inactive Accounts

This December, Google will start deleting accounts that have been inactive for two (2) or more years. For PFLAG chapters, this is particularly important if you have files that are kept in an inactive account. If you do, we recommend either logging into the inactive account or, if you can’t, making a copy of those files. For more info, see the Google Policy.

Regional Roundup

Last month, PFLAGers gathered in Washington, DC for a weekend packed with activity! The event wrapped up with cheers and a lot of heart as over 400 PFLAG members, supporters, and leaders connected for four days of education, advocacy, and support.

We held PFLAG National’s first Congressional Lobby Day in over a decade, heard from First Lady Jill Biden, who kicked off the proceedings, and from there the days were packed! We talked about banned books and trans healthcare, shared personal stories, and made every moment count with speakers, experts, and participants from around the globe.

If you were there, I’d love to know what your favorite moments of the convention were; please consider replying with your photos and reflections.

Stay safe,

Jamie Curtis (she/her)
