Dear PFLAG Supporter,

Hi there! My name is Abby Shuler (she/her) and I'm positively delighted to introduce myself as PFLAG National's new Chapter Engagement Manager for the Southern region!

As a native Carolinian, I find motivation daily in the joy and soul of the South, our fierce dedication to the ones we love, and the knowledge that no one can take that from us. I can't wait to get to know you and your chapter members—who I've heard are all ROCKSTARS—and join you as we continue leading with love in the fight for LGBTQ+ inclusion and affirmation in our communities.

I'll reach out to you soon to connect individually, but don't hesitate to reach out to me at if you need anything before then.

Annual Chapter Responsibilities

IRS Annual Reporting

Please be aware that the IRS filing portal is currently undergoing maintenance. We are monitoring the situation closely and will inform you as soon as it is back up and running. In the meantime, please have the necessary information ready for when the system becomes operational.

Every chapter is required to file a report with the IRS by this fiscal year’s due date, February 15, 2024. PFLAG National cannot file an IRS report for your chapter; the IRS requires it to be done by a board member of your chapter. The e-Postcard (990-N) is sufficient for most chapters with an annual income of less than $50,000. If your chapter income exceeds $50,000, visit for more information.

If your chapter fails to file the e-Postcard for three consecutive years, your chapter will be automatically revoked by the IRS and lose its tax-exempt status. The IRS rules are strict and inflexible, so it is very important for you and your chapter to submit before the February 15, 2024 deadline. If your chapter is revoked, you will need to either apply for reinstatement with the IRS (involving a fee of at least $250 - $600) or dissolve the chapter.

State Report

Most states require PFLAG chapters to file an annual report to stay in compliance and up-to-date with your state. Due dates and requirements vary and while it’s the responsibility of your chapter to find this information, we have compiled a list of Annual Filing Requirements by State that you can access here. You should also consider doing your own independent research to ensure that you’re completing all of the required filings.

Annual Report

Every year your chapter must provide financial and other information to PFLAG National for reporting and tracking purposes. The annual report form should be completed by your chapter board and will likely take about fifteen minutes.

Chapter Roster Updates

Every year your chapter is responsible for updating and verifying member and board roster changes. Member roster updates and verifications allow us to provide timely updates and membership benefits to chapter members and board roster updates ensure we’re able to reach your chapter board with important updates, information, and chapter-related communications.

In October 2023, we launched the Member Portal, which replaces the Chapter Hub. Here, you can manage your chapter's membership details, unlock exclusive members-only resources, and tap into the National membership benefits extended to chapter members. All chapter leaders will now have an account in the Member Portal tied to their personal email address. This is a shift from the old system where there was only one login per chapter. We strongly recommend that all chapter leaders activate their accounts by February 15, 2024, if they haven't already done so. Not sure how to activate your account? Follow the steps below to kickstart the process today!

Regional Roundup

Whether you're a parent, family member, or an LGBTQ+ individual, PFLAG Connects: Communities offers a welcoming, safe, and moderated virtual space where people with shared experiences can connect, learn, and find support each month. Recognizing the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, these groups acknowledge the unique intersections within the LGBTQ+ community and offer a space for meaningful conversations and shared learning.

Let's work together to uplift PCC and ensure everyone feels seen, heard, and empowered. Please make sure to share this valuable resource with your chapter members, friends, and anyone who might benefit from these spaces. Flyers and other materials are available to help you promote PCC in your monthly meetings and events.

Psst! We are excited to share that we are in the process of expanding and implementing more groups as needed, stay tuned!
