Dear PFLAG Supporter,

It's the season of generosity! Year-end giving season can foster a sense of community and encourage individuals to come together to support causes they care about.

By actively participating in ready made events like Giving Tuesday, nonprofits can organize events, share compelling stories, and create interactive campaigns that encourage community involvement. This engagement not only strengthens the bond between your chapter and its supporters but also helps to build a network of passionate advocates who can champion the cause throughout the year.

Here are some helpful tips, ideas, and resources to help in your planning:

  • Get Back to Basics. PFLAG Academy Online offers sessions to support chapter leaders in all areas of chapter development, including fundraising and community partnerships. This list of key sessions—especially for chapter leaders—is available on the member portal.
  • Think about your story! Giving Tuesday and end of year giving are a prime opportunity for chapters to highlight their accomplishments from the past year. Sharing those stories (along with an ask to donate!) reminds folks of the work you do year round. This can also be an opportunity to share stories from members about the impact and importance of PFLAG in their lives. The more heartfelt and personal, the better!
  • Host an event. Use this year-end giving season to host brunch, a potluck, or coffee in a local community space like a library or community center–being visible in unexpected spaces while highlighting your chapter’s mission and work in limited edition style.
  • Parties are more fun with friends. Reach out to organizations you’ve worked with over the past year to invite offer to support their fundraising efforts in return for elevating yours in-kind. Don’t forget to make spaces to celebrate with everyone’s members and supporters, offering times that work for all parties and amenities that make the most sense for the audience.

Whether you’re participating in Giving Tuesday, writing an annual appeal, hosting a holiday party, or participating in community-based fundraisers,  building your plans for year-end fundraising with a strong focus on community connections allows for greater success.
