According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), there were 648 mass shootings (defined as any incident where four or more people, not including the shooter, were injured or killed) in the United States in 2022. In January alone, GVA recorded 52 mass shootings.

While the gun violence that people have experienced has an impact on everyone in a community, for some groups -- including the LGBTQ+ community -- the threat of violence has become even more pronounced and frightening.

In an effort to help prepare our chapter members to know how to respond should they encounter an incident in their work, PFLAG National will be hosting an interactive, virtual ALICE Active Shooter Response Training for PFLAG staff, board members, regional directors, chapter leaders, and chapter members in partnership with Navigate 360

This three-hour learning session will cover topics including:

  • Ways to empower PFLAG members so they can participate in their own survival if they are ever in a space where a violent critical incident is occuring;
  • Awareness and communications strategies such as developing situational awareness, recognizing the signs of danger, and providing real-time information to first responders;
  • Response option strategies such as evacuation (when it is safe to do so), barricading entry points with enhanced lockdown tactics, and decreasing the intruder’s ability to cause harm; and
  • Talking with family, friends, and community members about what you have learned.

Please note that this is a three-hour training that will be interactive and must be attended live (as Navigate360 does not allow ALICE trainings to be recorded, a recording will not be available). Space is limited, so please register early and keep your commitment to attend.

If you register for this training and circumstances change, so that you are no longer able to participate, please contact jhenkel@pflag.org as soon as possible.
