Dear Shaun,

It is always bittersweet as Regional Directors (RDs), that we have all grown so close to, leave their roles! I am thankful for our outgoing RDs and all they have accomplished in their regions. Many thanks to: Chad Reumann, Blanca Leos, Kathy Halbrooks, and Emily Zelaya. While I am sad to see them go, I am happy to share the opportunity to nominate yourself or someone else to these open roles or for the other RD positions up for reelection this year. Please take a look at the information below and let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for all that you do,

Jamie Curtis (she/her)
Director of Chapter Engagement

Nominations are Open for Regional Director Positions!

PFLAG National needs your help to find a passionate and enthusiastic volunteer to engage and help chapters as the next Regional Directors (RDs) for the following regions starting October 1:

  • South Atlantic region (NC, SC, KY, TN)
  • Northern Plains region (MN, ND, SD, WI)
  • Mountain West region (AZ, CO, NM, UT, WY)
  • Southern region (AR, LA, OK, TX)
  • Mid Pacific region (Northern California and Nevada)

In addition to these regions, many other Regional Directors will be up for reelection this fall. RDs serve 2 year terms and can serve 3 terms. Keep your eyes out for elections in these regions:

  • Pacific Northwest region (AK, ID, MT, OR, WA): Kevin Toovey will be up for reelection
  • Gulf region (AL, FL, GA, MS, PR, USVI): Ann Miller will be up for reelection
  • North Atlantic region (NY, NJ, PA): William Placek will be up for reelection
  • Mid Atlantic region (DC, MD, VA, WV): Jumel Howard will be up for reelection

RDs are an important resource to chapters, and the need for a dedicated volunteer to serve in these regions has come at a critical time. The challenges and issues in each state in this region might differ. However, the focus is the same: Uniting our PFLAG voices for critical advocacy, connecting and supporting our chapters and their members, and keeping families together.

If you love participating with PFLAG, meeting new people, learning more about our work on the state and national level, sharing ideas and experiences, and are interested in supporting PFLAG across the country, becoming an RD is a great way to do it. Please let me know by June 21 if you are interested in running for any of these positions.

Partner with Kendra Scott during Pride!

During the month of June, our friends at Kendra Scott have graciously offered to host your chapter for a give-back fundraising event. They will coordinate the logistics, and all they ask is for you to share the word and invite your chapter members to attend. Your chapter will receive 20% of the proceeds from this event, and develop a grassroots connection with a national brand and partner.
Please watch this short video from Kendra Scott to learn more, and you can sign up directly through this link. Please sign up by 05/29 to ensure your chapter is included!

Visible, vocal, and active allyship can be tough, especially in the face of disinformation and intense conflict. But as dedicated allies – no matter where we are on our journey – we have the power to model the supportive and welcoming behavior we hope to see in our friends and family.
