Dear PFLAG Supporter,

As we reach the end of 2023, it’s important to take time to reflect on the successes of the past year. At PFLAG National, we are proud of so many accomplishments!

  • We introduced new branding, providing two rounds of free Pride Packs—including personalized banners and table runners—and Canva to chapters to assist with the rebranding effort, plus hold ongoing virtual office hours to support your branding and media questions.
  • Learning With Love: The 2023 PFLAG National Convention took place in Washington DC. We were thrilled to see so many of your smiling faces there. Missed the convention? Check out the recordings of the plenaries!
  • We just launched the National Member portal, providing an easy-to-navigate, one-stop shop for you to access resources, manage memberships, update information, and pay dues. Haven’t logged in yet?

Thank you for your support in bringing your chapter up-to-date and thus making these projects a success!

It’s easy to always focus on the next project. Take a moment to reflect on what your chapter did and share that with your community. This could be a new initiative you started, or an event you attended. Small accomplishments are important, too! Maybe you made a change to your board that you’re excited about or made something you’re already doing just a bit better. Taking a moment to reflect allows you to celebrate what you’ve done so you can look forward to what you want to do next.

Regional Roundup

I am so proud of all that Western chapters have achieved this year! I want to take this opportunity to highlight some accomplishments from a few chapters.

Recently, I heard about PFLAG Fairbanks’ first Friendsgiving event, which took place the day after Thanksgiving and brought in over 40 people. The Tanana Chiefs Conference, a local native non-profit, donated their tribal hall and vendors donated food. The event had enough leftovers to feed an additional forty people through a street outreach program. The chapter was also able to sign up new members and grow their email list to over 430 people. After the success of this year’s Friendsgiving, PFLAG Fairbanks plans to do it again next year!

2023 also saw PFLAG San Diego County’s 26th year of awarding scholarships to local LGBTQ+ students pursuing higher education. This year, they awarded 21 scholarships ranging from $2,000-$3,500 for a total of $54,000. Since 1998, when they started with only two scholarships, PFLAG San Diego County has worked to steadily build their scholarship program and is proud to have now awarded over 200 scholarships totaling $480,000.

Stay safe,

Eddy Funkhouser (they/he)
