PFLAG Connects

Dear PFLAGer:

We’ve got brand-new ways to stay connected this week, including another edition of Something to Talk About Live. Did you miss last week’s broadcast? You can watch it now on Facebook or YouTube.

Support

Get and stay connected

The leaders of our 400+ chapters are doing the critical work to keep their chapters connected via online support, and digital meetings and events. Now, PFLAG National is hard at work rolling out a brand-new program that will provide infrastructure, training, and promotional tools to support their move online. Watch this space next week for the big announcement!

We know that finding ways to provide -- and get -- support during this time can be tricky. Here’s a reminder that you can cope with your PFLAG hug withdrawal by making an extra effort to check-in with people. Download (and share!) our guide to ways to be supportive when hugs are off limits! Just click the image and save!

Three Steps to Being...A Better Advocate

Just because you’re staying in doesn’t mean your vocal support for diversity and inclusion should slow down. So stay safe and take these steps to engage.

  1. Learn: Check out the resources available at pflag.org/advocacy-101 where you can learn more, no matter your level of experience with advocacy.
  2. Watch: PFLAG Academy On Demand includes multiple sessions for LGBTQ+ advocates including Advocacy in an Election Year for PFLAG Leaders: Your Voice Can Change the World and our brand new PFLAG Votes 2020: Advocacy in 10 Minutes or Less that will help better understand the many ways PFLAG chapters and leaders can be involved in life-changing advocacy.
  3. Share: Participate in PFLAG’s #TransKids #SoFierce video and photo campaign and encourage others to do the same

An open letter about COVID-19 and risks to the LGBTQ+ community

PFLAG National joined 100+ organizations signing on to this letter, which addresses the LGBTQ+ communities’ increased vulnerability for coronavirus, and offers a series of strategies for all parties handling COVID-19 surveillance, response, treatment, and media coverage to reduce further stigmatization of vulnerable groups.

The open letter with the full list of signatories is available here [cancer-network.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Press-Release-Open-Letter-LGBTQ-Covid19-16.pdf].
